The state Assembly’s death penalty abolition bill has already been sucked in. As of late Wednesday afternoon, legislation to cap rates on payday lenders has still not been scheduled for a committee hearing. The same goes for the modest bill to mandate sick pay for private sector workers. Friday is the deadline for legislation to pass out of committees, lest they get trapped behind the event horizon where, according to known laws of physics, escape velocity is impossible.
